Biography

I am currently head ranger in Glen Tanar, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park.

My Fellowship focused on access and conservation in northern Europe. It was a precursor, and enabled me to feed into, the forthcoming access legislation in Scotland.

Subsequently, I sat on the newly formed Cairngorms National Park Board, as a ministerial appointee, and deputy convenor, for seven years. I then chaired the Cairngorms Access Forum, and now also sit on the Scottish Wildfire Forum Board.

Seeing how other similar-sized countries – in particular Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands – managed the relationship between people's desire to enjoy nature and our need to protect it, informed, and continues to inform my work, at both a site and national level.
