Biography

I work at Greenwich CAMHs, within the Children Looked After, Edge of Care and Adoption team, as a trainee CBT therapist. My Fellowship is concerned with how UK children's services can better support the particular needs of LGBTQ+ young people within systems of care.

The purpose of my research is to investigate the work taking place in the USA and Canada to meet the specific needs of LGBTQ+ young people in systems of care, and to explore the impact this support is having on their wellbeing and livelihoods.

Throughout my career so far, I have become increasingly aware of the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ young people in systems of care are facing, as well as an absence of 1) support for these young people to overcome such challenges, and 2) systematic change to reduce the adverse health and mental health outcomes for LGBTQ+ youth in care. I hope to learn from the work that is taking place in the USA and Canada to target the needs of this specific community of young people, and hear from those accessing this support, to consider how we can apply such work to a UK-based context, to dismantle the challenges facing these young people and better meet their needs.
