Biography

I work in initial teacher education for the primary age phase. The focus for my Fellowship was early years education. As a primary school teacher, I began to question how I was facilitating the all-round development of children. This led to me having a strong desire to explore environments where young children could flourish most effectively. The aim of my Fellowship was to understand best practice from the world-renowned Te Whariki curriculum in New Zealand and to know more about an attachment-based programme called Babywatching.

Since returning from my travels, I have presented my findings to fellow academics, students and other Churchill Fellows. I have promoted the programme in the media and organised a training and taster session for other professionals. We now have a Babywatching North West team.

My Fellowship findings were included in a chapter of a book aimed at students engaged in postgraduate study. I also wrote an article which was published in an academic journal.

My Fellowship has inspired and continues to inspire me to promote the Babywatching programme and I will continue to enlighten other professionals about its benefits.
