Biography
I am currently Director of Development at Lloyds Bank Foundation and a non-executive director of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust.
My Fellowship was about promoting community health in the context of health inequalities and poverty. I was working in community development at the time and believed that we could learn from others living in much bigger cities, with larger populations, about how to do that and consequently I visited several cities in North America. It is without doubt that I learned a lot and actually changed my practice and that of others as a result – particularly in sharing my learning about asset-based community development, which we then adopted in the UK and is now very widely known about (not just because of me, it must be said).
My career has remained within the broad sphere of health inequalities and I continue to advocate for and work within asset-based approaches in everything I do.
