Biography

I am a trustee and activist for 50 Million Voices, a global initiative seeking to transform the world of work for people who stutter – and for employers and society too.

I am a linguist and librarian with a strong thread running through my working life on the themes of inclusion, social justice, people, places and identity.

From 2003-2007 I ran a project Welcome to your Library, supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation (PHF) connecting public libraries and refugees as part of their Reading and Libraries Challenge Fund. This led me to undertake my Fellowship on The Role of Public Libraries in Multi-Cultural Relationships. I subsequently wrote a review, Leading Questions, looking at all the strands of PHF's Reading and Libraries Challenge Fund, posing questions about systemic change and demonstrating the impact of the projects on individual lives. I would not have been able to do this without undertaking my Fellowship.

My current activities, whilst seemingly on a very different topic are in fact very much connected and my Fellowship has contributed by giving me a depth and breadth of understanding of the challenges in making positive and lasting change.
