Biography
I am an established UK textile artist and I especially enjoy collaborating to create bespoke commissions. My work is in many UK and international public and private collections including Westminster Abbey, York Minster and the British Library.
My 1997 Fellowship focused on researching the traditional and contemporary arts and crafts of the west coast of the USA and Canada. I wanted to discover specific artefacts and meet people in order to gain a broad understanding of the design style of the region.
I actually grew up on the west coast of the USA, and I wanted to return as a practising craftsperson to understand it in context. As a rug weaver and dyer, I am interested in design and technique and always want to learn more. I attended a weaving conference, learned an indigenous (Coast Salish) weaving method and made contact with artists.
This has led to teaching craft workshops, public speaking and undertaking further professional development, including exploration into natural dyes. I am passionate about sharing my experience and skills, and I will do all I can to inspire the next generation of creatives. My Fellowship and resulting experience has greatly contributed to the development of my weaving career.
