Biography

I currently work freelance (Jacqui Jobson Consultancy), providing support to charities around equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as coaching and external supervision.

My Fellowship was about LGBTQ+ health and inequalities that people face, especially around mental health. I visited Canada and Australia looking at best practice in this area. This subject was close to my heart, as a lesbian with lived experience of mental health issues.

Previously, as director of an advocacy service, I noticed that although services were starting to consider the mental health needs of some minoritised communities, LGBTQ+ issues were being left behind.

Since my Fellowship, I've been able to impact on equity, diversity and inclusion commitments within the advocacy sector. I've delivered workshops and widely disseminated my recommendations. Since becoming self-employed, I've helped write the new Equity, Diversion and Inclusion Quality Standards for the sector, to enable over 100 organisations to improve their practice. My Fellowship gave me the confidence to change my career and I'm passionate about my new work – making a positive difference to LGBTQ+ people's lives.
