Biography

I had the great privilege of a Fellowship to travel to Japan in 1985 to study the education, training and management of technicians and engineers.

I subsequently gave a lot of presentations at a time when little was known about Japan. I co-authored a book Japan's Winning Margins – Education, Training and Management, based on my Fellow's Report, with Professor Takashi Kenjo for Oxford University Press. This was later translated into Chinese and published by Science Press in Beijing.

At the time I was controller of training for GEC Telecommunications and then training executive for GEC Plessey Telecommunications. I was able to implement many of the lessons learned from my Fellowship.

In 1991 I left to become a self-employed consultant and was able to travel the world implementing my new ideas. I have also been heavily involved with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) for the past 50 years (now a Fellow), and have been able to use my Fellowship experience to influence IET policy and activity. I have had the great privilege of travelling to many countries with the IET.

I am now retired but continue to keep in touch with other Fellows through the West Midlands Association.
