Biography
In 1975, I applied for and was awarded a Fellowship for 1976 to study the progress of solar energy in the USA and Canada. My Fellowship not only proved to be a wonderful opportunity to pursue my interest and commitments in solar energy, but it gave me the opportunity and confidence to diversify and interact with the many other Churchill Fellows. Many of these Fellows I have come to know as friends over the decades.
Throughout my professional career (1976-2012) I have worked as: a mechanical building services project engineer, a solar energy and research and development design specialist, a computer and computer-assisted design programmer and engineer, and an education officer for both a professional institution and an employer. I have been involved in numerous other activities in the profession and community for youth and other groups. Now retired, I am still active.
A few years after returning from my Fellowship, I became active in the North West Association of Churchill Fellows (NWACF) committee from October 1980 to the recent dissolution of NWACF. I was the Chair for five years from August 2007 and have served as Treasurer.
I quote: "A Churchill Fellowship is for life" - Major General Jamie Balfour, former Director-General of the Fellowship.
