Biography

With experience as a senior civil servant in the Home Office, as a vice-president in a global pharmaceutical company and as President of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, I have experience of the public, private, and non-departmental public body (NDPB) and NGO sectors. In my current role, I provide advice and execute projects as a consultant focusing on the interface between human and animal health and welfare.

In my professional and volunteer roles, I have established a reputation as a compassionate leader and strategic thinker in enabling change. Most recently I led an organisation into becoming an excellent regulator, effective delivery of their role being central to the success of British science.

I enjoy climbing mountains and have climbed Kilimanjaro and Kinabalu. I actively seek new mountains to climb, both physically and metaphorically. I am interested in how we can improve wellbeing through social change, especially where the relationship between humans, animals and the environment is crucial. I work across many cultures, including in south-east Asia, Africa and South America, and am passionate to support low- or lower-middle-income countries (LMICs), especially through the concept of closer collaboration between professions to deliver 'One Health'.
