Biography
My professional career started as a college lecturer, followed by work in the creative industries.
A Churchill Fellowship in 1996 into assistive technologies for visually impaired people consolidated my interest in, and passion for, research and the role it plays in decision-making.
As someone with a degenerative eye condition, the Fellowship, and knowledge gained therein, significantly broadened my personal and professional horizons. Digital technologies have continued to evolve but I won't forget the excitement of my early discoveries. The Fellowship's support has had a long-lasting impact on my 'can do' attitude to life and encouragement of others to make applications.
In 2008, I was awarded a Master of Research and in 2013 successfully completed a Doctorate in Political Geography from the University of Exeter.
From the Fellowship, through evidence-gathering for creative sector plans, to academic thesis, I am a lifelong researcher and wordsmith – now a new direction is opening up as a children's author with the publication of The Awesome Space Race.
