Biography

I currently work as the Paths for Everyone Manager at Sustrans, a UK-wide charity that makes it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle. My role involves leading a programme of improvements to the accessibility of the National Cycle Network, removing restrictive barriers, upgrading surfaces, installing signage and widening paths so that it is suitable for everyone, including those using adaptive cycles, mobility scooters and wheelchairs.

My Fellowship will focus on how to maximise the impact of these newly accessible paths by planning and running a series of inclusive cycling 'Rides for Everyone' on the network's best routes, in some of Britain's most attractive locations. These events will be carefully designed to support and encourage disabled people in the UK to get cycling and experience the tremendous physical and mental health benefits that it brings.

Having suffered a spinal cord injury at 23 years old, I experienced at first hand the huge adjustments required to stay fit and active. Like many disabled people, I find that cycling offers me the greatest mobility, freedom and independence and I want to share these benefits as widely as possible.
