Biography
My Fellowship in 1999 was to explore my interest in therapeutic story making, a technique I was using in my job in NHS mental health services. I went to Israel and Palestine and a couple of years after my return I was lucky enough to win a NHS sponsored place to research a PhD around the topic of my Fellowship, the 6-Part Story Method (6PSM).
After completing my doctorate, I continued to work in NHS mental health services in Hull and East Yorkshire while working in a part-time post as a researcher at the University of Sheffield in the Centre for Psychological Services Research. I also trained in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). I still teach the 6PSM to CAT trainees and I'm delighted that it has become a popular and much-used tool in the CAT toolbox. I'm presently writing a chapter about it for a new CAT textbook.
I now work as a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Hull. I teach undergraduates and postgraduates and have supervised PhD students, and I would have done none of this without the confidence that winning my Fellowship gave me. It was a turning point in my professional life and I've always been profoundly grateful for the opportunity.
