Australian AHP-led telehealth and telecare: key lessons for Scotland
I am currently the Scottish Government's Clinical Lead for Digital Health and Care, but at the time of my Fellowship in 2011, I was a director at NHS24, Scotland's digital provider. I travelled to Australia to learn more about their digital health developments, an experience that has had a lasting impact.
Since the Fellowship, I co-founded and have subsequently directed the Scottish NMAHP (nursing, midwifery and allied health professions) Digital Health Network and its associated National Digital Leadership Programme which has over 750 members. I am also leading a number of digital initiatives including contributing to the development of international standards for digital practice.
My focus on digital practice was significantly supported by the Fellowship, which allowed me to develop new and productive networks which I utilise to this day. My digital leadership work was recognised in February 2018 when I was named Scottish Digital Impact Leader of the Year and, in July 2018, UK Digital Leader. I am also a founding Fellow of the UK Faculty of Clinical Informatics and was awarded an OBE for services to healthcare in 2020. I have the Fellowship to thank for the wonderful opportunity it afforded me.
