Biography

I remain a community activist. My Fellowship involved a study of links between community groups in the so-called 'rainbow nations' of South Africa and Jamaica. I'm interested in building bridges between communities, so enhancing social capital. My most recent volunteering has been with the Lesbian Immigration Support Group, which works very successfully in support of lesbian and bisexual refugees and asylum seekers.

A big challenge during the Covid-19 crisis has been to find funds to enable women who are in shared Home Office and other accommodation to safeguard. I helped to raise substantial funding to enable women to have reduced contacts by providing food vouchers, minifridges, kettles, toasters etc, as well as helping to counter social isolation through provision of phone vouchers, organising mental health wellbeing sessions and one-to-one support.

Having co-ordinated activities and support for an over-50s group for several years, I'm currently advising on social housing provision for older LGBTQI+ people.

I am keen to see all identities within our society reflected and celebrated. I'm also contributing to Black Queer and more broadly Black History archive initiatives.
