Biography
I work for Greater Manchester Police but I'm currently seconded to the National Counter Terrorism Police, working alongside the Metropolitan Police. I have served since 2002.
My Churchill Fellowship in 2018 came on the back of working on the trauma risk management response to the Manchester Arena terror attack in 2017. I was heavily involved in the peer-support trauma response and my Fellowship focused on worldwide policing trauma responses to major incidents, but also looked at how other countries helped officers to deal with daily stress and burnout.
The purpose of my Fellowship was to meet police officers in the USA and Australia who had either dealt with similar incidents or had already placed great response models in play that UK policing could learn from. I have suffered myself with mental ill health and I wanted to be really well informed so that I could enhance Greater Manchester's provision.
Since returning from my Fellowship I have conducted multiple research presentations, sharing my findings with police officers and partners across the UK.
