Biography
My Fellowship journey to New Zealand in 2008, looking at Leadership in Small Primary Schools, came after 40 years in the teaching profession. It followed extensive work as an education consultant working in small schools across the country.
At present, I am Chair of the National Association of Small Schools (NASS), a role I have occupied since 2014. As the name suggests, NASS seeks to support small schools through advice, guidance and training. We also help those in danger of closure.
During my time as chair, we have worked to develop partnerships with local and national groups, universities and many other organisations who provide opportunities for training and development for teachers and wider experiences for pupils. NASS is currently working with colleagues across the country to develop a Small Schools Manifesto, which will seek to reinforce their educational and social benefits within local communities.
I have fond memories of my Fellowship journey and have referenced it constantly since 2008 through articles, conference speeches and during visits to schools. My 'chance of a lifetime' has opened windows for many other colleagues too.
