Biography
I am now retired. I was a senior fire officer with the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.
In 1988 I carried out a Fellowship to Australia, calling in at Hong Kong, Singapore, Honolulu, San Francisco and Los Angeles, visiting fire, police and other authorities to learn more about water-borne rescue operations. This was a good time to visit and learn, as the UK was falling behind worldwide fire and rescue services' practices and operations. However, subsequent years saw the UK catch up significantly in the way they trained and operated their staff.
We owe a great deal to the likes of the Fellowship, facilitating opportunities to members of public bodies who are constantly financially challenged and not able to get their staff to experience overseas travel and development.
