Volunteer development and training
Biography
My Fellowship was mostly in Western Canada. After returning to Scotland for seven years, I moved to New Zealand where I lived and worked for 13 years. In 2018 I was approached about moving to Canada to lead one of the organisations I first had contact with during my Fellowship.
I am currently the President and CEO of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. We are a faith-based charity, running nine children's camps across the country and working in high schools and universities.
My Fellowship was about developing volunteers and it was a big help in advancing my thinking. I am convinced that thriving people and cultures are critical to achieving strategic objectives. The Fellowship laid a foundation of understanding intentional development and purposeful partnerships. I have been able to build on this as I have moved from training specialism to overall leadership roles. I have been involved in sports coaching, youth development, pioneering new global initiatives, organisations and networks, fund development, governance and improving systems.
My motto is: encourage the good, wherever you find it. My Fellowship had a big impact on my life and I try to pay it forward.
