Biography
I work as a consultant ecologist, land manager and planner operating under the business title of Panscape. My wife and I also run a smallholding in the Tamar Valley.
In 1986 I travelled down the east coast of the USA working with government and NGOs looking at their problems and management methods applied to coastal wetlands. My Fellowship gave me wider experience in the area of ecology and land management. I was then working in south-west England as a warden of a coastal site for a council in Devon. I had arrived in this role having studied biological sciences and education at various universities before working as a land manager etc prior to joining the council.
Following my Fellowship, I established an environmental section within the planning department covering ecological, landscape and historic buildings issues and, in parallel, a ranger service that managed council and private public open spaces. I left this to head the conservation section of the newly formed National Rivers Authority/Environment Agency of England and Wales, leaving this a decade later to form Panscape. Panscape has involved me in many wetland creation and environmental assessment projects.
My Fellowship gave me funds and freedom I will always be grateful.
