Co-operative library storage and acquisitions systems
Biography
I'm a retired Fellow and have lived in France for almost 20 years. My career in librarianship took me from Newport Public Libraries to Rolls-Royce in Derby and then to university libraries. I was working at Aston University in 1978 when I won my Fellowship. My later move to the University of Birmingham was in part because my Fellowship research was about co-operative acquisition and storage of research resources. During my time at Birmingham University, I was visiting professor in the Department of Information Studies at City of Birmingham University (then UCE). I stayed at the University of Birmingham until my retirement in 2002 then moved to France. I've lived in Tours since 2015.
My interest in both photography and information science has allowed me to help the local Societe Archeologique de Touraine organise and populate a database of ancient photographs.
I've benefited enormously from my Fellowship. My self-confidence was enhanced and my career advanced. For a young person from a poor background, the Fellowship gave me a marvellous opportunity to travel abroad, further my career and benefit others and I'm forever grateful.
