I currently work as STEAM Schools Manager at Camden Council. I also teach one day a week in a Camden secondary school.
My Fellowship focused on project-based learning (PBL), visiting schools in California to study how PBL is planned and implemented. The learning from my Fellowship has been directly applied in the work that I do. I lead a STEAM teacher leadership programme for primary and secondary teachers and school leaders across Camden. Within this role I have taken the principles of PBL to support teachers in planning a rigorous enquiry-based and interdisciplinary curriculum. I have been able to apply innovative approaches to curriculum design observed in California to the design of the leadership programme. Teachers have worked through a co-design process alongside Camden employers to design a rich interdisciplinary curriculum with authentic purposes, processes and products. The result is curriculum impact that is leading to deeper learning for young people across the borough.
The Fellowship has inspired and enabled me to develop the knowledge and skills to be able to lead on innovative curriculum design, implementation and evaluation.
