Biography
I am a doctor specialising in hearing problems, dizziness and imbalance, currently training in the north of England. I have loved working with children, but have realised that while there have been lots of great advances in diagnosing vestibular (inner-ear balance) problems, accessing paediatric vestibular rehabilitation in the UK is difficult.
My Churchill Fellowship allowed me to travel to centres of excellence for paediatric vestibular rehabilitation in France and the USA. My aims were to bring back ideas and knowledge that can be used to help children here who have vestibular problems.
Seeing some 'gold standard care' and meeting experts in the field was both inspiring and humbling. Since being back home I have presented my findings and ideas to colleagues at work, fellow trainees in the UK and also to our wider professional body at our annual conference.
The next steps: we are soon to begin filming for an online video resource of exercises and a leaflet which will be freely accessible to all, work which is being supported by some of those I was so lucky to meet during my Fellowship travels as well as the Meniere's Society, for which I am very grateful.
