I am a doctor specialising in genitourinary medicine and HIV in the UK. I have a passion for improving healthcare for disadvantaged people and have worked in the Moria refugee camp in Greece along with other projects in India and the Philippines.

My Fellowship will focus on reducing the rates of HIV in the UK by radicalising the way people in the UK can access PrEP, an anti-HIV medication. PrEP is taken by high-risk groups of people so that it prevents transmission if they come into sexual contact with someone who has HIV and is infectious. Currently it is only available through specialist genitourinary medicine clinics. I want to create an opportunity for PrEP to move into the community by researching how pharmacy-led provision of PrEP in Seattle and San Francisco and lay person provision in saunas in Thailand distribute PrEP, and explore the challenges they have faced.

There are 106,890 people living with HIV in the UK. HIV new diagnoses are falling, in part due to PrEP, but it is harder to find the remaining cases, which means increasing our efforts to reach them. I hope to use community-based PrEP to help UK Government achieve the aspiration of zero new HIV transmissions by 2030.
