Biography
I am a London-based artist researcher and an associate lecturer with University of Kent.
I use an investigative process to explore themes of space, place, heritage and identity through visual analysis of art and design. I am particularly drawn to decorative arts and surface design in the Islamic world and its influence outside of the assumed spaces and cultures this is associated with.
My practice involves the construction and application of patterns using a variety of media. I am interested in human engagement with these spaces, both natural and man-made, and consider their impact on each other.
My Fellowship was based on research on Islamic art and visual culture of medieval Spain and Portugal. As a result, I was able to demonstrate some of the reoccurring visual themes in the Iberian Peninsula and their ongoing influence. The results of this research continue to flourish in interdisciplinary output leading interactive installations, animations, collaborative community projects and learning resources.
I completed my PhD in Digital Arts from the University of Kent in 2018. I hold an MA in Digital Arts and a BSc Hons in Multimedia Technology and Design.
