Community engagement initiatives to improve wellbeing and raise social capital

Since my Fellowship, I have had two children and set up my own evaluation and learning consultancy. I now support voluntary and community sector organisations delivering social change projects to evaluate and learn from their work, with a particular emphasis on the topics which were a focus of my Fellowship: asset-based approaches, community development, health, wellbeing and social capital.
The overall purpose of my Fellowship was to explore how community engagement initiatives (such as Community Health Champions) focused on improving wellbeing in communities are delivered, and the role of social capital and asset-based approaches in sustaining the work.
At the time of my Fellowship, I worked as a learning network manager for the Altogether Better Programme. What I learnt from this work, and a related MSc dissertation that I completed, showed that social capital played a crucial role in improving wellbeing and health outcomes, especially in communities facing disadvantage.
The knowledge, insight, and learning I gained from my Fellowship is a constant inspiration in my current work with community organisations.
