Biography

I currently work as a physiotherapist in a large NHS Trust, where I help people to overcome illnesses and their related aches and pains in order to have a better quality of life.

In 1981 I visited Canada and the USA to learn about foot mechanics from sports medics and university research centres. With the start of the London Marathon and other mass sporting events, running became more popular in the community. We started to see more sporting injuries in non-elite athletes. Reading current research led me to the experts in these countries.

Returning from my Fellowship, I pursued my passion in sports medicine and have been a dedicated member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine (BASEM) ever since. My Fellowship has been invaluable to my career development, as well as for passing on knowledge to other colleagues and patients alike.

It gave me the confidence, determination and tenacity to challenge some of the status quo, to uphold and maintain the original principles and characteristics of my profession in the field of exercise therapy and rehabilitation. In 2019 I received an MBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace for services to physiotherapy and voluntary amateur sports. I am truly grateful to the Fellowship for giving me the opportunity and drive when I needed it most.
