Biography
I am a choral director and music educator. My Churchill Fellowship involved research in music education and choir training, particularly for the young. I travelled to Hungary to observe their methods in both.
I was already working in music education before receiving my Fellowship, but on my return I totally changed my teaching methods and styles of working. I also began to work with organisations such as The Voice Foundation. Eventually I became a freelance artist involved in many music initiatives, some national and some regional.
The Fellowship helped me grow in professional confidence. Since my Fellowship, my children's choir won BBC Three's Choir of the Year. It was also awarded a Royal Philharmonic Award for performing a community opera for the Cultural Olympiad in 2013 and has been involved in many national events.
Currently I mostly conduct adults and sit on the boards of various arts organisations. I am proud to have been awarded a British Empire Medal for services to music and an honorary doctorate from Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln.
