I'm now semi-retired and living in Edinburgh. I continue to be interested and active in the topics that led to my Fellowship, namely entrepreneurship and the growth of businesses from idea to fruition.
Another emerging interest over the last few years has been looking at the intellectual challenge for people who are semi- or fully retired. In the USA there are Institutes for Learning in Retirement at many universities and colleges, including Harvard, UCLA and Duke University. While the UK has an active network of Universities of the Third Age (U3A), these are quite different to the US Institutes for Learning in Retirement, which are more focused on serious study, but without exams and qualifications. I'm currently exploring the possibilities of starting the UK's first equivalent in Edinburgh.
