Biography

I am now retired. In 1998 I completed my Churchill Fellowship on the reality of sponsoring a child in the Indian subcontinent. When my Report was published it received a good deal of publicity. I was interviewed on the radio and my Report was discussed by the Charity Commission and quoted in their yearbook. I was asked to speak on many occasions by different groups and a number of universities asked to hold my paper as a reference.

I continued to work for a charity, with my research work centred on schools and charities. In more recent years I have studied the problems of support for both blind and deaf children. Shortly before my retirement I qualified in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and I have visited and worked in both China and Burma.

It is interesting to see that a number of charities are returning to the promotion of supporting a single child and I am always interested to talk to people who support a child overseas and to listen to their views on the subject. So many children overseas, particularly girls, are in desperate need of support. There can be no definitive answer to this problem while there are so many children still in such need.
