Biography
I trained in medicine in at the University of Queensland in Australia where I was awarded the University Medal. I came to the UK funded by Commonwealth and Gates Scholarships to complete a Master's in epidemiology and a PhD in neuro-imaging and traumatic brain injury. Subsequent to completing my PhD in 2009, I dual-trained in emergency and intensive care medicine, and performed postdoctoral research as a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Academic Clinical Fellow. I spent time in 2012 and 2013 travelling in Canada, the USA and Australia as a Churchill Fellow, which gave me great insight into how different trauma systems are organised worldwide.
Since 2014 I have held a Clinician Scientist Fellowship from the Academy of Medical Sciences and The Health Foundation, which has allowed me to continue to combine clinical work with research. In 2018 I was appointed as an honorary consultant in both intensive care and emergency medicine at Addenbrooke's Hospital, as well as an associate professor at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
